Protecting our most vital resource
What is Water Pollution?
Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies, usually as a result of human activities, so that it negatively affects its legitimate uses. Water bodies include lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers, and groundwater.
Contaminated water is unsuitable for drinking, swimming, and agriculture. It also destroys aquatic ecosystems.
Causes
- Industrial waste discharge
- Sewage and wastewater
- Oil spills and leakage
- Agricultural runoff (fertilizers)
- Plastic pollution in oceans
Preventive Measures
- Proper sewage treatment
- Reduce plastic usage
- Avoid throwing chemicals in drains
- Conserve water at home
- Use eco-friendly detergents
