What is Air Pollution?

Air pollution is the presence of substances in the atmosphere that are harmful to the health of humans and other living beings, or cause damage to the climate or to materials.

It can be caused by both human activities and natural phenomena. Common pollutants include carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter.

Causes

  • Burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas)
  • Industrial emissions and smoke
  • Vehicle exhaust fumes
  • Agricultural activities (ammonia, pesticides)
  • Deforestation and forest fires

Preventive Measures

  • Switch to renewable energy sources
  • Use public transport or electric vehicles
  • Plant more trees (Afforestation)
  • Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
  • Install air filters in industrial chimneys
